Introduction

Importance of Healthy Eating

In the United States, dietary habits play a pivotal role in shaping the health and longevity of the population. Despite widespread access to food, poor nutrition remains a leading contributor to chronic illnesses such as obesity, cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, and certain cancers (Armet et al., 2022). According to Chattaraman et al. (2023), obesity affects every 2 of 5 adults, underscoring the urgent need for health promotion strategies centered on healthy eating. These conditions not only reduce quality of life but also place substantial strain on the U.S. healthcare system and economy.

Healthy eating extends beyond the simple act of consuming food; it reflects a lifestyle approach that prioritizes nutrient-dense choices, moderation, and awareness of how diet influences overall well-being. Everyday decisions, such as preparing balanced meals, reading nutrition labels, or opting for whole foods over processed alternatives, can have significant cumulative effects on physical, mental, and emotional health (Chattaraman et al., 2023). Adopting healthier eating patterns can enhance energy levels, improve cognitive function, and reduce the risk of chronic disease, ultimately contributing to a more productive and resilient society (Mato et al., 2025).
